A slice of happiness

March 29th, 2009

So, its been yet again another crazy week, hence not so much blogging going on, or even Twitter. I just discovered a whole new use for Twitter, its a way to share recipes. Many of the top chefs in the UK are sharing their recipes I think Giorgio Locatelli’s Pasta al Crudo and Mark Hix’s Pork Crackling will get a try out in my kitchen in the near future. Last night I went to the SNS’s 10th birthday, which was fun, Biz Markie was certainly good but I think at that age would cut down on the burgers . Well that is unless you had Tuscany’s best butcher next door, his new fast food concept sounds great, the basic €10 option gets you a massive burger with roast potatoes, vegetables and red wine. On the subject of burgers, watch Padma Lakshmi face fuck a Western Bacon THICKburger, fast food porn, keep that in mind as you then watch 18 large hotdogs flushed down a toilet , its a passion killer.

So, its been busy, you must have guessed by my absence, it still is, but the burning urge to blog my weekly hunt for food continues. However this time I fancy just a list of links, like a short list of ingredients to make something greater than the sum of its parts. Lets start with some tasty luxury brand lollipops, some Obama fingers from the fatherland, my favorite restaurant (for food) gets a Michelin star, a Swedish TV host can’t use the right phrase ‘Chocolate balls‘ and finally scanwiches (thanks to the lovely Devi). Hate to mention Las Vegas one more time but this chef is all over it..

Nike + Im back

March 13th, 2009

So, like the new season of Lost, I have just been inspired to go back in time to find ‘ the island’ or to be honest, find some writings, which took place Saturday 21st February, in the bar of the Sahara Casino in Las Vegas. It’s my forgotten demo tapes, original directors cut buried under a motorway siding or lost manuscript, sit back, brew a rooibos tea, eat some dark chocolate and wonder why I had too many beers and why was I writing at 4pm in a Casino?

Elvis it seems, has left the building, but his legacy of fat arse’s, fried food and rockn’roll lives on in the Casino of the Sahara. Actually, Elvis and me actually do have one thing I common we both like eating squirrel. (Well that’s the end of part 1, random scribbling)

“You don’t need to leave America to visit Europe” I spied the quote in the NWA in-flight magazine. I believe North-West airlines would benefit from the tag line “Straight outta Compton”, an airline as radical as the lyrics from Compton’s finest would have got me on the plane more than dire food and camped seating. Which reminds me, get running next week, I don’t want to end up like Elvis. (Wow that was part 2, of the missing blog posts)

Imported beer or American beer, utters the barman at the Sahara in broken eneeglish (sic). My mind is confused, distracted for a second as an older Asian woman wearing a dress a girl thirty years younger could just about pull off, delivers a beer to a fat dude in a XXXXL T-shirt at the black jack table, which he arrived to earlier on a little electric scooter. “Imported beer” err “a Corona”, the only nod to consuming sort of local produce this week if Mexico counts as local enough. Well local enough to fill the strip with Mexican dudes trying to pass you flyers with ‘25 dollar specials’ delivered direct to your hotel door.

So there you go, part 3 of random scribbling from the Sahara, slightly more coherent than an episode of Lost without the smell of Davidoff’s ‘Cool Water’. I really think Sawyer would have benefited with some ‘Mandals’ he has enough raw sex to pull them off and if you laughed he could always shoot you and bury you on the island.

This week we unveil the 1st floor at PUB and the new +46 concept on the 3rd floor, so its going to be a busy week, Friday – Saturday sees some great activities in-store so drop past and have a shop.
